The very first recorded meeting for oour Association was January 17, 1987 - attended by 40 former students - through the efforts of Frank Hathorn, Lee Fisher, Betty Pippin, Nauty Byrd Mayer, James Clark, Truman Wilson, David Moore, Frances Foshee Beavers, June Strawn Gelvin, Beth Beard Graham, Ernestine Wilson Sawyer, Helen Adams Thomas, and many others.  On Friday, September 23, 1988, the first All-School Reunion, honoring the class of 1938 on their 50th anniversary, was held at the Gladewater High School cafeteria with over 400 in attendance.

It has been many years since the ground-breaking of our beautiful building on March 26, 1994!  It was a cold and rainy day - but sitll attended by more than 30 brave and faithful supporters.  In spite of the weather, we all had a great time.  President Sherry Beall presided over the groundbreaking ceremonies;  The Rev. Clayton Gilpin of the First Methodist Church opened the ceremonies with prayer; Wanda Morlowe led the group in singing of the Nathional Anthem and the GHS Alma Mater; and after a brief history of the group's endeavors by President Beall, Dorothy Dake Anderson and her husband, Tom, stated they had donated the building to us for the future happiness and use of Gladewater Exes.  Many special thanks to dear friends of the Association, Dorothy and Tom Anderson!

Actual dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremonies took place on August 13, 1994, hosted by Dorothy and Tom Anderson, and welcomed by President Beall, with over 200 exes in attendance.  Others specificallly recognized at this celebration were Dr. Sally Lancaster; the Meadows Foundation; Bobbie Milliron Modissette and husband Charles; John Paul Tallent and Bob Dooley (Builders); and Mayor Jackie Wood.
